PROLACTIN

Prolactin হলো একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ hormone যা pituitary gland থেকে নিঃসৃত হয়। এটি মূলত breast development এবং breast milk production (দুধ উৎপাদন)-এর জন্য দায়ী। তবে এর ভূমিকা শুধু নারীদের মধ্যেই সীমাবদ্ধ নয়—পুরুষদের শরীরেও prolactin গুরুত্বপূর্ণ কাজ করে।

Prolactin test সাধারণত hormonal imbalance, infertility, irregular period, unexplained breast discharge এবং sexual dysfunction নির্ণয়ের জন্য করা হয়।

🔬 What is Prolactin?

Prolactin hormone:

• Breast development support করে

• Pregnancy ও breastfeeding-এর সময় milk production নিয়ন্ত্রণ করে

• Menstrual cycle-এ প্রভাব ফেলে

👨 In Men:

• Testosterone level-এ প্রভাব ফেলে

• Sperm production indirectly regulate করে

📊 Normal Range of Prolactin

👩 Women (Non-pregnant):

• 4 – 23 ng/mL

🤰 Pregnant Women:

• 34 – 386 ng/mL

👨 Men:

• 3 – 15 ng/mL

👉 Laboratory অনুযায়ী reference range কিছুটা পরিবর্তিত হতে পারে।

🩺 Why is Prolactin Test Done?

Doctor prolactin test advise করেন যদি থাকে:

• Irregular or absent period (মাসিক বন্ধ বা অনিয়মিত)

• Infertility (গর্ভধারণে সমস্যা)

• Breast discharge without pregnancy

• PCOS suspicion

• Low libido

• Erectile dysfunction

• Headache or vision problems (pituitary tumor suspicion)

⚠️ High Prolactin (Hyperprolactinemia) Causes

Common Causes:

• Pituitary tumor (Prolactinoma)

• Hypothyroidism

• PCOS

• Chronic stress

• Certain medicines (antidepressants, antipsychotics)

Symptoms in Women:

• Period বন্ধ হয়ে যাওয়া

• Breast milk discharge without pregnancy

• Infertility

Symptoms in Men:

• Low testosterone

• Erectile dysfunction

• Decreased sperm count

• Breast enlargement

⚠️ Low Prolactin Level

Low prolactin সাধারণত খুব rare এবং সাধারণত গুরুতর সমস্যা নির্দেশ করে না। তবে pituitary dysfunction থাকলে কম হতে পারে।

🧪 How is Prolactin Test Done?

• Simple blood test

• Morning sample preferable

• Fasting সবসময় বাধ্যতামূলক নয়, তবে doctor advise করলে follow করুন

• Stress ও heavy exercise test-এর আগে এড়ানো ভালো

আপনার যদি থাকে:

• মাসিক বন্ধ বা অনিয়মিত

• সন্তান না হওয়া

• Breast থেকে অস্বাভাবিক দুধ নিঃসরণ

• যৌন দুর্বলতা

• দীর্ঘদিন মাথাব্যথা
