What is Peritoneal Fluid?

Peritoneal fluid হলো পেটের ভেতরে অবস্থিত peritoneal cavity-তে থাকা তরল। স্বাভাবিক অবস্থায় এই তরলের পরিমাণ খুব কম থাকে এবং এটি অঙ্গগুলোর মধ্যে friction কমাতে সাহায্য করে।

কিন্তু কিছু রোগে এই তরল অস্বাভাবিকভাবে বেড়ে যায়, যাকে বলা হয় Ascites।

What is Cell Type / Cell Count Test?

এই পরীক্ষায় peritoneal fluid-এ থাকা—

• Total Cell Count

• Differential Cell Count (Neutrophils, Lymphocytes, Mesothelial cells, Eosinophils ইত্যাদি)

microscope-এর মাধ্যমে বিশ্লেষণ করা হয়।

👉 Cell count এবং cell type দেখে বোঝা যায় fluid-টি infective, inflammatory, tubercular, or malignant কি না।

Purpose of Peritoneal Fluid Cell Type / Cell Count Test

এই test সাধারণত করা হয় যখন রোগীর—

• পেটে পানি জমেছে (Ascites)

• দীর্ঘদিন জ্বর বা ওজন কমছে

• লিভার সিরোসিসের সন্দেহ

• TB abdomen সন্দেহ

• Abdominal cancer বা malignancy সন্দেহ

• Spontaneous Bacterial Peritonitis (SBP) সন্দেহ

Diseases Diagnosed by This Test

এই পরীক্ষার মাধ্যমে শনাক্ত করা যায়—

🔹 Infective Conditions

• Spontaneous Bacterial Peritonitis (SBP)

• Acute bacterial infection

👉 Neutrophil count >250 cells/µL হলে SBP strongly suspected

Lymphocyte predominance

• Chronic inflammation pattern

High cell count

• Atypical or abnormal cells (often followed by cytology test)

Low cell count with mixed population

• Portal hypertension related ascites

Sample Collection Procedure

1. Experienced physician দ্বারা Abdominal Paracentesis করা হয়

2. Sterile condition-এ peritoneal fluid সংগ্রহ করা হয়

3. Sample laboratory-তে পাঠানো হয়

4. Automated cell counter / Microscopy দ্বারা analysis করা হয়

5. Report-এ total cell count ও differential count দেওয়া হয়

Very low total cell count

• No neutrophil predominance

Acute bacterial infection
