What is Protein Total (Fluid)?

Protein Total (Fluid) বলতে শরীরের বিভিন্ন fluid sample-এ (যেমন pleural fluid, ascitic fluid, CSF, synovial fluid) থাকা মোট প্রোটিনের পরিমাণকে বোঝায়।
এই test মূলত শরীরের ভেতরে জমে থাকা fluid-এর nature বোঝার জন্য করা হয়।

👉 এই test দেখে বোঝা যায় fluid টি transudate না exudate, অর্থাৎ এটি সাধারণ চাপজনিত নাকি কোনো infection, inflammation বা cancer-এর কারণে হয়েছে।

What is Protein Total (Fluid) Test?

Protein Total (Fluid) Test একটি laboratory investigation যেখানে শরীর থেকে fluid sample সংগ্রহ করে তার মধ্যে থাকা মোট protein level পরিমাপ করা হয়।

This test is commonly done in:

• Pleural fluid (বুকের ফুসফুসের চারপাশে তরল)

• Ascitic fluid (পেটের ভেতরের তরল)

• Pericardial fluid (হার্টের চারপাশের তরল)

• Synovial fluid (joint fluid)

• CSF (cerebrospinal fluid)

Why is Protein Total (Fluid) Test Important?

This test is very important because it helps doctors understand the cause of fluid accumulation.

বিশেষভাবে এই test সাহায্য করে—

• Infection আছে কিনা বুঝতে

• Tuberculosis (TB) suspect করতে

• Cancer-related fluid (malignant effusion) চিনতে

• Liver, heart বা kidney disease evaluate করতে

Normal Range of Protein Total (Fluid)

Fluid type অনুযায়ী normal range আলাদা হতে পারে। তবে সাধারণভাবে:

• Pleural fluid:

  • Transudate: < 3.0 g/dL

  • Exudate: > 3.0 g/dL

• Ascitic fluid:

  • Low protein: < 2.5 g/dL

  • High protein: > 2.5 g/dL

⚠️ Note: Lab reference range ভিন্ন হতে পারে।

Low Protein in Fluid – What Does It Mean?

Low protein fluid সাধারণত transudative fluid নির্দেশ করে।

Common causes include:

• Liver cirrhosis

• Heart failure

• Nephrotic syndrome

• Hypoproteinemia

এই অবস্থায় সাধারণত inflammation বা infection থাকে না।

High Protein in Fluid – What Does It Indicate?

High protein level fluid সাধারণত exudative fluid, যা বেশি serious cause নির্দেশ করে।

Common causes:

• Tuberculosis (TB)

• Bacterial infection

• Malignancy (Cancer)

• Inflammatory diseases

Therefore, high protein fluid হলে further tests প্রয়োজন হয়।

Protein Total (Fluid) in Pleural Effusion

Pleural fluid protein test খুবই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।

Doctors এটি ব্যবহার করে—

• TB pleural effusion suspect করতে

• Pneumonia related effusion evaluate করতে

• Cancer-related pleural effusion detect করতে

Often, Protein level এর সাথে LDH, ADA, glucose test একসাথে করা হয়।

Protein Total (Fluid) in Ascitic Fluid

Ascitic fluid protein test helps differentiate:

• Portal hypertension related ascites

• TB peritonitis

• Malignancy

High protein ascites usually suggests infection or cancer.

How is Protein Total (Fluid) Test Done?

✔ Report usually available same day বা next day

Is Any Preparation Needed?

Generally:

• No fasting required

• Test before antibiotic preferable (if possible)
