Wound Swab for Gram Stain পরীক্ষা মূলত bacterial infections in wounds শনাক্ত করার জন্য করা হয়। এই পরীক্ষায় wound থেকে bacteria খুঁজে বের করা হয় এবং তা Gram-positive বা Gram-negative হিসেবে ভাগ করা হয়।
যদি রোগীর wound ধীরে সুস্থ হয় না, persistent redness, swelling, pus, বা unusual discharge থাকে, ডাক্তার এই পরীক্ষা নির্দেশ করতে পারেন। Gram stain পরীক্ষা দ্রুত প্রাথমিক ধারণা দেয় যে wound এ কোন ধরনের bacteria সংক্রমণ হয়েছে, যা culture & sensitivity পরীক্ষার আগে চিকিৎসা পরিকল্পনা করতে সাহায্য করে।
Procedure: ডাক্তার sterile swab ব্যবহার করে wound থেকে sample সংগ্রহ করেন। ল্যাবরেটরিতে smear প্রস্তুত করে Gram staining technique দ্বারা microscope এ bacteria ধরা হয়। Gram-positive bacteria রঙে purple, আর Gram-negative bacteria রঙে pink/red প্রদর্শিত হয়।
Note: Gram stain হলো rapid diagnostic test, কিন্তু culture পরীক্ষার মাধ্যমে আরও নিশ্চিত ফলাফল পাওয়া যায়। Home collection সাধারণত প্রস্তাবিত নয়, কারণ sterile technique প্রয়োজন।
