CULTURE AIR AEROBIC FOR OT

Culture Air Aerobic for OT হলো একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ microbiological test যা Operation Theatre (OT)–এর বাতাসে থাকা aerobic bacteria শনাক্ত করার জন্য করা হয়।
This test helps monitor environmental sterility and prevent hospital-acquired infections.

🔬 What is Culture Air Aerobic for OT?

এই পরীক্ষায় OT–র বাতাস থেকে নমুনা সংগ্রহ করে culture media–তে incubate করা হয় যাতে দেখা যায় বাতাসে কোনো aerobic bacteria আছে কি না।

Aerobic bacteria মানে এমন জীবাণু যা অক্সিজেনের উপস্থিতিতে বৃদ্ধি পায়।

🏥 Why is This Test Important?

Surgical patients have open wounds

• Risk of post-operative infection

• Immunocompromised patients at risk

Surgical site infection (SSI)

• Hospital acquired infections (HAI)

• Cross contamination

There are two common methods:

1️⃣ Settle Plate Method

Sterile agar plates are kept open in OT for fixed time (usually 30 minutes to 1 hour).
Airborne microorganisms settle on the plate.

2️⃣ Air Sampling Device Method

After collection:

• Plates are incubated at 35–37°C

• Growth observed after 24–48 hours

• Colony count measured (CFU – Colony Forming Units)

📊 Report Interpretation

✅ Acceptable Level

Low CFU count (within standard infection control limit)

⚠️ High Bacterial Count

Indicates:

• Poor air filtration

• AC/HEPA filter problem

• Inadequate cleaning

• Overcrowding in OT

In such cases, corrective action is required.
