ASCITIC FLUID FOR CULTURE & SENSITIVITY

Ascitic Fluid for Culture & Sensitivity is an important diagnostic laboratory test used to detect infection in the fluid accumulated inside the abdomen (ascitic fluid). This test helps identify the exact microorganism causing infection and determines which antibiotic will be most effective for treatment.

🔍 What is Ascitic Fluid?

Ascitic fluid হলো পেটের ভেতরের peritoneal cavity-তে জমে থাকা অস্বাভাবিক তরল। এটি সাধারণত দেখা যায়:

• Liver Cirrhosis

• Chronic Liver Disease

• Tuberculosis

• Abdominal Cancer

• Heart Failure

• Severe Infection

যখন এই তরলে সংক্রমণ হয়, তখন সেটিকে বলা হয় Spontaneous Bacterial Peritonitis (SBP) — যা একটি জরুরি অবস্থা।

🦠 What is Culture & Sensitivity?

1️⃣ Culture Test

Collected fluid laboratory-তে বিশেষ media-তে রাখা হয় যাতে bacteria বা fungus grow করতে পারে।

2️⃣ Sensitivity Test

যদি জীবাণু পাওয়া যায়, তাহলে পরীক্ষা করা হয় কোন antibiotic সেই জীবাণুর বিরুদ্ধে সবচেয়ে ভালো কাজ করবে।

📌 Why Doctor Recommends This Test?

Doctor এই test recommend করেন যদি রোগীর মধ্যে নিচের লক্ষণ থাকে:

• High fever

• Severe abdominal pain

• Sudden increase in abdominal swelling

• Vomiting

• Confusion

• Weakness

• Low blood pressure

বিশেষ করে liver cirrhosis রোগীদের ক্ষেত্রে এই পরীক্ষা অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।

🧫 Sample Collection Procedure

Procedure is called Paracentesis.

• Sterile needle দিয়ে abdomen থেকে fluid সংগ্রহ করা হয়

• Sample sterile container-এ পাঠানো হয়

• Laboratory-তে incubator-এ রাখা হয় 24–72 hours

This procedure must be performed by a trained doctor in hospital setup.

• Final Culture & Sensitivity report: 48–72 hours
